TRAILER TYRE LOAD INDEX & PRESSURE CHART

    CHOOSING THE RIGHT TRAILER TYRE

Ensuring your trailer has tyres with the correct load index to carry the load you intend is vital to ensure towing safety, and that your trailer and its tyres are performing as intended, without excess wear or damage.

Knowing the aggregate weight of your trailer and its intended or typical load, you can use the light commercial tyre load and pressure chart on this page to choose the right tyre for your trailer, and also look up the suggested tyre pressure to suit the weight you are towing.

As a general guideline, it's suggested to avoid carrying loads that are above 90% of the maximum load capacity of a tyre at the given pressure. To help highlight this, loads that exceed the 90% threshold of a trailer tyre's maximum load rating are highlighted in bold. If your load falls in to this weight range, it is recommended to go up a load rating and run at a lower suitable pressure.

Having your trailer's tyre pressures set according to the tyre's load index and the weight being carried ensures your trailer tyres are working optimally, providing the most effective contact patch with the road surface which prevents excessive wear and heat build-up. Over time, this adds up to trailer tyres that are going to last you longer, and carry your trailer as safely as possible.

You can always contact us here at Oceanic if you need more detailed information about exactly which tyre/rim size combination is going to suit your trailer, or contact your closest Oceanic dealer to give you the right information when it comes to choosing and maintaining the right trailer and trailer parts to suit your towing needs.
